Tunnels

We grow in a variety of high and low tunnels to extend the growing season and protect from the harsh climate in our high desert at 4560’ elevation. The tunnels protect from the wind, capture heat, and retain moisture. In the shoulder seasons of spring and fall, we grow greens in the tunnels. During the main summer season, they are reserved for heat loving crops like tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers.

Field Crops

Some crops do well in the field like asparagus, squash, and beans. We also grow a lot of root crops like beets, carrots, and turnips. During the summer, greens are also grown in the field.

Farm Animals

Our animals are part of the family. If you ever get a chance to come to the farm, you will be greeted by Penny and Luka (dogs) and Max (cat). The goats give us milk and the chickens provide eggs for our family nourishment. Snoox (donkey) and Harley (horse) are best friends and enjoy the pasture life while providing valuable manure for farm compost.

People

Three generations work together on the farm. Mike and Lindee, Leah’s parents, started the farm life in Bidwell and Leah and Brian couldn’t resist following them to Surprise Valley to raise their two daughters. They all work together to grow, raise, and enjoy feel good food. Over the years, various helpers, interns, and volunteers have lended hands on the farm.
